New Album Promises to be Big...Platinum ? It's been about two years since Jody Watley released her last album, Affection, on her own label, Avitone Records. The album, while critically acclaimed, did not go platinum or gold as she may have expected. She was, of course, working with a lesser known distributing label, Bellmark Records, and it was her first venture as an entrepeneur/artist. This time around, Jody has decided to go all out and work with some of the best producers in the music industry, representing many genres of music. Judging from all of the planning and work that Jody is putting into this album, and considering she is back on a major music label, Big Beat/Atlantic Records, there is no doubt she is planning to make waves with the release of the new material this Fall, and no doubt she has Platinum set in her sights. The rumored street date for the album is October 28, with the lead off single to be released about 6 weeks prior. So keep an ear out ! BabyFace & David Morales Teams Up with Jody Jody Watley is rumored to be working with some powerhouse producers and writers. Sources at Big Beat and Atlantic Records have already confirmed that she will be produced by Kenny "Babyface" Edmonds and David Morales on her upcoming record release. Also, it is widely speculated that Jody is to begin working with "Little" Louie Vega and Kenny "Dope" Gonzales on some remixes for the album. This duo is known for their funky dance remixes that feature authentic, grooving sounds. The group has recently released an album entitled, "Neuyorican Soul". Gonzales is also known for his production on the smash dance hit "The Bomb". Apparently, Jody is looking to do a "classic dance/soul" album. This format will be a perfect match for her, and will surely combine her dance talents as well as her sophisticated brand of R&B. Legions of fans will come out of their dormant stages when Jody releases "Saturday Night Express" this coming fall. And as Jody puts it, "This will be my impact album..." We hope it is, because it will definately put her back on top of the charts. As for the album production, not only will Babyface be involved, but also Toni, Tony, Tone, and maybe even R. Kelly. We'll have to wait and see if this holds true. |
