As a model, you should always be aware of the geographical areas that have the most demand for models. Also, depending on what kind of modeling you want to do, knowing your market is very important. For example, in New York, there is always plenty of work available for editorial, runway and catalog models.

However, in Phoenix you may be limited to a certain type of market and certain types of work-- mainly catalog work. This is not to say that Phoenix doesn't have opportunities for runway models, but again, if that's what you're looking to focus on you may want to consider checking out the New York or LA markets.

A good rule of thumb is to try to break into the modeling industry at the local level-- in your home town, where you stand a better chance of hooking up with an agency that will represent you. And it's sure to give you good experience. Then go for the big markets.
